MARGARET ROSE TURRO BRACH
Born Margaret Rose Turro, Mrs. Brach was a native of New York City and the Executive Assistant to the Queens Borough President until she moved to Washington DC with her husband in 1963. A fifty-year resident of Chevy Chase, she was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Church Sodality and PTA where she was active in fundraising and was the editor of the parish cookbook and leader of the Girl Scout troop. After raising six children, she returned to the workforce in 1977 at the Apostolic Nunciature where she held several positions until her retirement in 2006. She was active in many volunteer organizations including acting as the secretary to the DC Society of Professional Engineers and Mathcounts for over two decades. Mrs. Brach passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 19, 2017, at the age of 84. She had resided in an assisted living facility in Knoxville, TN, for the past four years.

Brach Jr., Martha Brach, Matthew Brach and the late Joseph Paul Brach; grandmother of Felicia, Christopher and Alexandra Hare, Evangeline and Matthew Gus Hughes, Joseph, Philip, Patrick, Margaret, Lucia, Edwin, Sarah, Rosemarie and Elizabeth Brach, Alexis, Emily, Matthew and Isabella Brach; great-grandmother of Elijah Wheeler.
Friends may call on Friday, February 3 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the main church at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Western Avenue at Quesada St., NW, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 7 p.m. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, MD, at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 4. DONALD J. CRAWFORD (Age 76)
On Tuesday, January 24, 2017, of Rockville, MD. Beloved husband of Mary W. Crawford; father of Robert B. (Mark C. Nielsen) and Brian C. (Sarah) Crawford; grandfather of John “Jack”, Sophia, Delaney, and Finnegan; brother of John Paul and Thomas C. Crawford.
Born in Pittsburgh and raised outside Philadelphia, Don graduated from Villanova University and received his J.D. from the University of Maryland Law School. He was a fixture on Capitol Hill for 14 years as the head of the Securities Industry Association’s (SIA) Washington office. Later in his career, Don practiced law in Rockville and was very involved in the City of Rockville politics. Don and Mary were longtime residents of Fallsmead, parishioners of St. Raphael’s Parish and loyal supporters of Gonzaga College High School and Don was a proud Eagle Scout of Devon, Pennsylvania’s Troop 50.

JAMES “Jim” ALLEN BABCOCK, SR.
of New Carrollton, Maryland, passed into the eternal realm Thursday, January 19, 2017. Born in 1939 in New Jersey to Walter and Mitilda “Tillie” Babcock and was raised in Midland Park New Jersey with sisters Mary Ellen, Laura Sue and Robin Lea.
At the age of 17 in 1956 as the Korean War was ending, Jim joined and served in the Navy for three years. As a Veteran in the 1960’s, he drove a Yellow Cab and worked as a car hop at Hot Shoppes in Bethesda, Maryland before becoming a career Life Insurance Salesman, retiring after more than 30 years in the business and having become an esteemed Red Coat Member.
Jim was a Past President and dedicated member of the Burtonsville Lions Club for over 40 years, and worked hard over more than half his life serving the community and charitable organizations.
In his free time, he enjoyed golfing and vegetable gardening, camping and fishing with his wife Shirley.
Predeceased by his parents, daughter Valerie June, grandson Ezekiel Agustus, and great-granddaughter Lillie Marie Smith. He is survived by his sisters Mary Ellen Randall and her husband Al, Laura Sue Wells and husband Roger, Robin Lea Grogan and husband John; his children James “Jimmy” Babcock, Jr. and wife Lynne and Jayne Marie Babcock-Smith; his grandchildren Zachary James Babcock, Stephanie Marie Carr and Brian Patrick Smith; and six step-children, 5 step-grandchildren; and his loving wife of over 26 years, Shirley Anne Babcock who says “Jim was the sweetest and most caring man I ever knew. He took wonderful care of me and was always very considerate and thoughtful of others. He was a Christian and practiced his faith in every area of his life. He was my best friend and soulmate and I will miss him terribly. It is comforting to know he is with the Lord now.”
